When people think of a vacation destination, they often envision long drives across country or flights to coastal beaches and international hotels. Or they are on the opposite end of the spectrum and prefer a more down tempo “staycation.” For us in the Treasure Valley, we get to have the best of both worlds.
Located in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, just a seven-hour drive from Boise, the Blackwell Boutique Hotel boasts luxury and a view. Housed in an extravagant mansion, Blackwell offers all the amenities you would need for a relaxing Idaho vacation, plus shuffleboard, horseshoes, and a wraparound porch that will make you feel like royalty. The building itself was established in 1904 by F.A. Blackwell, originally built as a wedding gift for his son. Each room was ornately adorned, complete with clawfoot tubs and striking fireplaces. This home served as a place for many parties where family and friends alike would gather, sharing meals and laughter for decades.
Current owner, Bill Wendlandt, wanted to preserve the historic integrity of the property, while simultaneously adding his own unique flare. Many modern upgrades were added, but the original architecture of the home remained fully intact.
Bill’s wife, Calie Wendlandt, current handles the hotel’s day to day operations, which is no small feat, even at a boutique hotel with only 10 available rooms. Their mission is to establish comfort, create a relaxing atmosphere, and provide personalized service to all their guests. While covid played its role on their success last year, with CDC guidelines loosening, Blackwell is back in full swing.
“Boutique hotels always cater to the individual, providing very personalized, intimate service,” shared Calie. “We’re designed to blend into the community and reflect the neighborhoods and cultures around us. The smaller hotel results in a more intimate vibe, allowing our Innkeeper, Meredith, to deliver customized guest services and experiences.”
Blackwell strives to be the kind of place that provides something for everyone. Whether it be the starting point for a new adventure or a romantic weekend getaway for two, they have the style and atmosphere to bring forth the true vacation state of mind.
Nestled within walking distance of the stunning Lake Coeur d’Alene, the Blackwell Boutique Hotel is simply a must-see on your travel list! Spend your mornings sipping coffee on the beach and afternoons exploring the beautiful mountains that surround Coeur d’Alene before retiring to your luxury sleeping quarters, like the North Traveler’s King Suite—complete with king-size bed, private bathroom, and of course, the clawfoot tub!
The hotel also serves as a fantastic event venue for weddings, meetings, fundraisers, and more! They have a variety of event packages to choose from and pride themselves in full customer satisfaction.
