The Magic of Salt & Light: Connecting through coffee and wine

Tucked into the heart of Eagle, Salt & Light Coffee and Wine Lounge is more than just a place to grab a drink—it’s a thoughtfully curated gathering space where community, quality, and experience come together in a way that feels both elevated and welcoming.

The vision belongs to owner Kylie, who not only built the space from the ground up, but brought her family into it as well. “My mom, my brother, my sister… they all work here,” she shares. “It’s so cute.” That sense of closeness and connection is something you feel the moment you walk through the doors.

    A Name With Meaning

The name Salt & Light carries a deeper significance. “It comes from the Bible—Matthew chapter five, when Jesus said we should be salt and light to the world,” Kylie explains. “I’m not super outward about it, so it’s fun when people come in and recognize it. They’re like, ‘Wait, that sounds familiar.’”

That subtle intention has resonated with the community in an organic way. “We’ve had people from nearby churches say, ‘Oh my gosh, we’ve talked about this in sermons,’” she says. “They send people in all the time. There’s just such a community here. It’s been so fun.”

    Filling a Gap in Eagle

After living in downtown Boise while attending college, Kylie experienced firsthand what a strong coffee culture could look like. “There’s literally a coffee shop on every corner—and they’re all good,” she says. But after moving to Star and spending more time in Eagle, she noticed something missing.

“There weren’t really places to hang out,” Kylie explains. “I felt like there was a huge hole, especially from Eagle Road to Highway 16—there’s nothing. I just thought… this could be so cool if it was redone and big enough for people to gather.”

Within two months of connecting with a mentor and finding a location, Salt & Light was set in motion. “With a past in planning and coordinating corporate events and weddings, I really do have a love of bringing people together” she adds. “I wanted to bring that into a coffee shop—something more than just coffee.”

    Elevated Coffee, Thoughtfully Done

By day, Salt & Light offers a premium coffee experience rooted in quality and intention. “Our coffee is all organic, and every syrup we make is house-made with organic cane sugar, and real high-quality ingredients” Kylie says. “I would never serve something I wouldn’t eat or drink myself–I’m health conscious.”

Guests will also find local pastries and grab-and-go options, all curated with the same level of care.

Evenings Built Around Wine, Charcuterie, and Experience

After 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, the space shifts into a completely different experience—one centered around wine, charcuterie, and connection. “We only serve wine and charcuterie in the evenings, and it’s all table-side service,” Kylie explains. “It’s not just ordering at the counter—we have servers who come to you, and everything is made to order.”

The wine program is one of the most unique aspects of Salt & Light. “Our wines come from 17 different countries,” she says. “You can go to wineries here and get Idaho wines, but I wanted something different—something global.”

With the help of a passionate sommelier, the wine list has been carefully curated, even including some of the top-ranked wines in the world. “We actually secured the number one and number seven wines,” Kylie shares. “We only have a limited number of bottles, and it’s not even officially on the list—it’s that exclusive.”

“My goal was to help Kylie curate a wine list that expands your palate with exceptional varietals from around the world—each chosen for quality, value, and story. Highlights include Top 20 selections, 98–99 point wines, a former Queen Isabella estate, and a Galilee red blend,” said Stephen Walker, a sommelier who was voted Sommelier of the Year by the California Restaurant Writers Journal.

Guests are guided through the experience by knowledgeable staff. “We have a trained sommelier on the floor who knows everything about the wines—she’ll help you find exactly what you like,” Kylie says. “She even created all the pairings for our charcuterie boards and menu items.”

Those boards are just as intentional as the wine. Featuring high-quality imported meats, cheeses, olives, focaccia, and seasonal variations like a Mediterranean spread, they’re designed to complement the wine and encourage sharing.

Live Music, Wine, and a Neighborhood Feel

As the sun sets, Salt & Light begins to feel like something special. Neighbors walk over, friends gather, and the space fills with the sound of live music and wine being poured.

“We’re starting to bring in live music every week,” Kylie says. “It’s something I really want to build—especially on slower nights like Thursdays.” From acoustic guitar to live vocals, the performances create an intimate, relaxed atmosphere that keeps people lingering longer.

“It’s fun to imagine people from the neighborhood just walking over on summer nights,” she adds. “Sitting outside, listening to live music and enjoying wine—it’s exactly what I hoped this place would become.”

    A Space Designed for Community

With seating for around 50 and even more during busy nights, Salt & Light was designed to host connection. The patio, complete with heaters, lighting, and greenery, extends the experience outdoors—perfect for evenings filled with live music and wine.

The space also opens its doors for private events on select days. “People can book it after hours on Sundays and Mondays,” Kylie says. “I love hosting events—it’s a big part of why I wanted to create this.”

Looking ahead, she’s planning wine tastings, winemaker events, and even a wine club. “We’re going to have winemakers come in, sign bottles, do tastings—it’s going to be really special,” she says.

    More Than a Coffee Shop

At its core, Salt & Light is about more than coffee or even wine—it’s about creating a place where people feel like they belong.

“There just wasn’t anything like this here,” Kylie reflects. “I wanted to create a space where people could come, stay awhile, and feel connected.”

Whether you’re stopping in for a morning latte, meeting friends for charcuterie and wine, or settling in for an evening of live music and wine under the patio lights, Salt & Light Coffee and Wine Lounge is quickly becoming exactly what Eagle needed—a true gathering place, built with heart.
