Sometimes the best chapters begin in the aftermath of challenge. At Tamarack Resort, what could have been a devastating moment became the catalyst for connection, growth, and an even brighter future. After a summer marked by an unexpected wildfire, the mountain—and the people who call it home—have found a renewed sense of unity and purpose.

“The love that our neighbors and staff have for one another has elevated,” says Kara Finley, Tamarack’s Chief Operating Officer. “It really reinforced why we’re all here and reminded us that we can rely on each other. None of us slept for a month—we were checking pumps every four hours and working around the clock—but that commitment saved the resort and our community.”
Finley, who joined Tamarack just over four years ago and has served as COO for the past year, never imagined her dream job would include firefighting efforts and lightning strikes. But through it all, Tamarack has emerged stronger. “When the fire hit, there wasn’t even a storm coming in—it was so random,” she recalls. “Within 90 minutes, state and federal crews were on the mountain. It was incredible teamwork.”
When the lifts shut down, Tamarack used the time to replace lift ramps—another testament to the resort’s forward momentum and refusal to slow down.
That teamwork, and a touch of serendipity, have led to a new phase of growth. Tamarack is adding two new ski runs, cut by industry experts Miller Timber, who specialize in ski resort logging. “We wanted to ensure the mountain was left impeccable for opening day,” Finley explains. “Everything will be ready to go when we open the Friday after Thanksgiving. We even mowed the runs this year—it’s going to make for beautiful, manicured terrain.”
Beyond the slopes, excitement continues to build for the resort’s next chapter. “Our Aspen Townhomes project is well underway, with Phase I breaking ground now,” says Finley. “We’re also expanding Ponderosa and Osprey Meadows Estates. The first spec home sold before it was even finished.”
Finley’s enthusiasm extends beyond winter. Tamarack’s All-Season Pass—formerly known as the Boundless Pass—offers year-round access to lift-served activities, golf, marina perks, and dining discounts. “We’re one of the few resorts that’s truly four-season,” she adds. “With our golf course open, our new Marina—featuring 100 slips, fuel on the lake, retail, and dining options—set to open next summer, and summer activities expanding, we want people to experience Tamarack all year long.”
As snow season approaches, the mountain stands as both a destination and a symbol of resilience. What began as an unwelcome spark has become a story of community, courage, and transformation—proof that sometimes, the best things truly do rise from the toughest times.
