Sip Idaho

Discover Something New

By Chelsea Chambers

Did you know that since 2017, July has been designated as Idaho Spirits Month? Yes, that’s right. There is an entire month dedicated to liquor—and celebrate we shall!

“April is Idaho Craft Beer Month and June is Idaho Wine and Cider Month. There are many events held in Idaho during April and June, but nothing in July for Idaho Spirits Month. For a couple years, I told my husband that someone should start something to celebrate it,” explained Rachelle Kelch, founder of Sip Idaho. “After a lot of planning, Sip Idaho was born!”

Kelch is an Idaho native with a background in event planning and marketing. Kelch and her husband, Scott, own NorthStar Spirits, which operates as a liaison between various distilleries and the State of Idaho Liquor Division. “We work with craft distilleries to bring their liquor products to the state of Idaho. Once their liquor products are here, we go to bars and restaurants and introduce the spirits to them and try to get placements on their cocktail menus,” Kelch described. “Because we are already familiar with all the liquor laws here in Idaho, who better to start an event like this, that the public can benefit from!”

What Exactly is Sip Idaho?

Sip Idaho is the only public liquor tasting festival in the state of Idaho. Every year, delicious distilleries from all over get together and strut their stuff just for you. At Sip Idaho, you can learn about new cocktail recipes, see how liquor is distilled, and taste new flavors—all the while networking and exploring the industry of spirits.

This year, Sip Idaho will be hosted at the Courtyard Marriot in Meridian on Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. VIP tickets are also available, where you can get in an hour earlier, for a truly exclusive experience!

Sip + Stay

Kelch is excited to announce a new partnership with the Courtyard Marriott in Meridian to offer “Sip + Stay” packages. With the Sip + Stay package, event attendees can purchase a discounted room and stay the night after the event. Think ‘no drinking and driving,’ so we can all stay safe and enjoy responsibly.

“As an Idaho native, a local woman business owner, and mom of two, I hope others will appreciate what we have worked hard to create. We want you to come out with your friends, spouse, or family, enjoy a date night out without your kiddos, and have fun tasting some unique spirits!” Kelch said.

Don’t Miss It!

For Idahoans who are looking for a fun night out this summer, Sip Idaho gives the opportunity to experiment with something new and to step outside of liquor comfort zones. There is a whole world of flavors and twists that promise to bring something to the table. Discover your new favorite spirit at Sip Idaho, and please enjoy responsibly!
