    Boise, ID 83702

The Sun Valley Film Festival will launch its 2017 season with a reception at Jack’s Urban Meeting Place (JUMP) in downtown Boise at 5pm on December 1st. In addition to announcing a special guest who will be attending the Festival in March, the event will include a sneak-peek screening of Nat Geo WILD’s new digital series “Untamed with Filipe DeAndrade” ahead of the series’ launch in March on the network’s YouTube Channel. The series’ host, DeAndrade, was the 2015 winner of SVFF and Nat Geo WILD’s “Wild to Inspire” short film competition, and will join via a Skype Q&A to share his journey from SVFF to becoming a National Geographic filmmaker and show host.

SVFF’s Future Filmmakers Forum, for students grade 7 through 12, will hold an open house tour at the JUMP Play Studio from 3:30-5pm. Students can get hands-on time with the Studio’s camera and editing equipment as well as advice from seasoned filmmakers on how to turn their ideas into a short film, and how JUMP can assist them. There will also be raffles for scholarships towards classes and programs at JUMP as well as a Student Pass to SVFF.

At 5 pm, a complimentary cocktail reception will follow in the JUMP room, where Festival Director Candice Pate and Director of Programming Laura Mehlhaff will discuss new and returning Festival programs that offer over $40,000 in grants and support for filmmakers. The Directors will also unveil exciting announcements about the upcoming Festival. The reception will include a raffle drawing for a SVFF 2017 Festival Pass.

The evening will wrap with a social hour where Festival passes will be offered a discounted rate. Festival staff will be on hand to answer questions about the festival, submissions, and Idaho Programs.

The event is free and open to the public.
