    Meets Monday, Feb 20th from 9:00 – 4:00pm.

Parents are invited to the final 30 mins of the workshop.

This workshop meets at Boise Little Theater – 100 E. Fort St. Boise, ID. Facilited by Allison Terenzio-Ruiz

This 1 day workshop will bring together students interested in researching and practicing socially engaged performance. We will investigate the ways in which theater has served as a forum to rethink and rehearse notions of community, citizenship, justice, power, authority and responsibility.

Students will create original monologues focusing on social justice themes. Examples: age, race, religion, bullying, socioeconomic status, and religion. Students will explore the aspects of society that inform self esteem and decision making, and re-evaluate how our community oppresses and empowers them.

This workshop will explore sensitive issues and may be emotionally charged. We will create a safe space to explore, respect, gain knowledge, and celebrate our differences.

Students will be asked to bring a work-in-progress personal story or monologue exploring this topic  – 1-2 mins in length.

Please come to the workshop in comfortable clothes (no skirts, please), shoes that stay on their feet (no flip flops, please), and bring a labeled water bottle, snack and lunch.

Payment is appreciated by the first day of class. This class are closed to observers. A waiting area adjacent to the classroom is available. Thank you in advance for respecting this policy.

    A NOTE ABOUT OUTCOMES:

All classes conclude with an observation day or showcase performance for an invited audience. You can expect that TVCT performing arts programs will help your child improve performance skills like projection, enunciation, concentration and creating character. But, more importantly, TVCT programs introduce your child to important life skills such as creative problem solving, working through high-pressure moments, managing disappointment, teamwork, and increased self confidence.

TVCT performing arts experiences offer youth a safe space within which to:

    • Find courage to overcome fears, try new things and face challenges new challenges with enthusiasm.
    • Master commitment to the process of developing something unique, setting goals and earning rewards.
    • Practice respect for themselves, their peers, their community, and the transformative power of the arts.
    • Demonstrate enthusiasm for the transformative power of the arts and their unique talents to change the world.
    • Strive for excellence by being the best version of ourselves in everything we do.

Enrolling your child in a TVCT program isn’t just about putting them on stage in a cute costume, it’s an investment in your child’s future. We are changing the world one theater kid at a time.
