The Idaho® Potato Drop is in its fourth year of production and we are enjoying the twilight of our most successful event to date. This free and charitable event has amassed crowds of an estimated 40,000 attendees and consistently makes local, national and world news. In September, the event was featured in Reader’s Digest’s “50 Best Stories in America” paperback edition. In October, we were featured in the Seattle Times Northwest holiday event travel guide. We were also featured in United Arab Emirates, Dubai: “The iconic Idaho Potato Drop gets bigger, better and brighter” edition. In November we will be featured in AAA magazine, Rocky Mountain Gardening as well as Country Woman. We will also be featured on the Travel Channel in December. This comes on the heels of major world-wide news coverage over the past three years including MSNBC worldwide broadcast New Year’s day, appearances on the Today Show, several features in Huffington Post, features in national and local top-ten type lists and too many more to list. Our Boise Weekly four-page event guide (with prominent sponsor branding and messages) is also re-broadcasted around the nation year-over-year from several major networks including USA Today, the Smithsonian and more. We were even featured in British Airways international in-flight magazine!
Gateway Parks has stepped on this year as our park builder and will be coordinating a USASA sanctioned 1-hour pre-qualifier event within the 6-hour rail jam event. This will be complete with professionals from around the country and televised with some big names and huge exposure. We will be blowing snow in Capitol park for days leading up to the event, setting up the rail jam with multi-color lighting aimed at the airborne snowflakes. In addition to this amazing setup, we will be debuting the all-new high-tech internally lit GlowTato and doubling our already amazing fireworks display. NASCAR will also be on hand broadcasting live and showcasing Jeff Earnhardt and Stafford Smith’s Ford NASCAR vehicles along with driver Stafford Smith at the event. In addition to our luxurious ticketed VIP tent, we are also adding a large capacity FREE heated family tent complete with educational and interactive entertainment. This year marks our first weekend event, so we are starting the festivities early on the main stage with the Summer Wind Skippers (seen on America’s got talent) at 1p.m., Wrestle Club professional wrestling (at the Borah Grounds Wrestling ring) and the entertainment continues all the way through New Year’s morning with world-renown Jeff Crosby and the Refugees. A special thanks goes to this year’s sponsors
