Eagle Mom of Five: Community Rallies for Pancreatic Cancer Surgery

Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction March 7 at Eagle High School

The Eagle, Idaho community is coming together on March 7 to support Shannon, a local mother of five currently battling pancreatic cancer. A benefit dinner, silent auction, and raffle will be held at Eagle High School to help cover the significant medical expenses associated with her upcoming out-of-state surgery.

This Eagle fundraiser is being organized with the help of Shannon’s oldest daughter, Hailey, whose strength and maturity have become a steady force for her family during this difficult time.

    Shannon’s Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis

Shannon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the beginning of last summer after seeking medical attention for what she initially believed was severe indigestion and chest pain. Following further testing and a biopsy, doctors confirmed the diagnosis.

Since then, she has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy in an effort to shrink the tumor enough to make surgery possible. That effort has worked — her medical team now believes surgery is the next critical step.

Why the Surgery Is Out of State

The specialized pancreatic surgery Shannon needs is not currently available in Idaho. She must travel out of state for treatment, but her insurance only covers in-state care. As a result, the costs for consultations, additional testing, surgery, and travel will not be covered by insurance.

This financial burden is the reason behind the March 7 fundraiser in Eagle.

    A Daughter Leading with Strength

During a recent Zoom call with Eagle Magazine, Hailey shared her mother’s journey with remarkable poise. As the oldest of five siblings, she has stepped into a leadership role — coordinating communication, helping organize the fundraiser, and advocating for her mother’s care.

Her maturity and determination reflect the heart behind this event: family, resilience, and community support.
