Mindy Joslin and Colleen Satterwhite bring their distinctive no-fuss flair to Juniper and Blue

When Mindy Joslin moved to the Treasure Valley with her husband Chase, a native Idahoan, she loved everything about her new home—except the shopping. So she texted her sister-in-law, Colleen Satterwhite, a fifth-generation rancher’s wife who shares Mindy’s love of fun and effortless style, and said, “Want to start a boutique?”
“Sure, okay, sounds great!” was Colleen’s immediate reply.
And the idea for Juniper and Blue at Eagle Island Crossing was born. Together, these two busy moms balance full time work—Mindy sells insurance and Colleen is a nurse—with pursuing their dream of bringing affordable, quality, fun fashion to Eagle women.
The pair view their boutique as a destination experience. “We wanted a place where moms could come with their teenage daughters, or you could stop by after lunch or work with your girlfriends and try on the latest styles,” Mindy told me when I spoke with both owners during the boutique’s grand opening in early May. Their spacious fitting rooms are designed to shop and share, with curtained rooms opening into a larger space.
Mindy and Colleen source their clothes from Los Angeles, focusing on a casual, affordable, high-quality style including relaxed, cute clothing, locally sourced jewelry, accessories, and of course, shoes. From bead bracelets to a mix-tape printed vinyl purse, the accessories are unique and fun, and the clothing fits current summer trends with tie dyed shirts, maxi skirts, boho inspiration, and an emphasis on comfortable style.
“We wanted to sell clothes that will boost your confidence,” Mindy said. “Confidence is the sexiest, most empowering thing out there.”
Mindy noted that their outfits have met a need during the pandemic for people who are working from home. “Women want more dressy loungewear,” she said, pointing out a beige knit tank and shorts that one of her customers pairs with a blazer for her Zoom meetings.
Since both women have daughters, they also plan to expand into more “Mommy and Me” offerings, Colleen said. They hope to start a men’s clothing store in the future with the same fun casual-but-classy vibe.
One concern for both Mindy and Colleen is keeping their offerings affordable. “The most expensive thing in our store is an $85 pair of jeans that will last you ten years,” Mindy said. They also want to ensure that all types of beautiful bodies are represented, with sizes ranging from small to 3X.
When I browsed the racks in their light, bright store, enhanced by Colleen’s original painted murals, a yellow
floral printed dress with a tiered skirt caught my eye. “That’s the frolicking dress,” Mindy said. “Doesn’t it just make you want to frolic?”
At $70, it seemed like an easy outfit update for early summer. I also noticed the super-soft yoga leggings, shorts, and sports bras in solids and fun prints at about half the price of a certain popular yoga store. Juniper and Blue rotates their stock about every two-three weeks, so there’s always something new.
Colleen and Mindy have worked hard to partner with local businesses and organizations. Their website is locally designed, and they feature jewelry and other accessories from local artisans. They’re already planning summer events.
