This scenic roundtrip to Trail Creek Cabin also includes a family style dinner and is sure to be one of your most memorable winter experiences. The kids will also love the Snow Tubing Park on Dollar Mountain – featuring three 600-foot tubing lanes. Or try snowshoeing or take an ice skating lesson. McCall Winter Carnival 2012

2012 kicks off with the 47th annual Winter Carnival in beautiful McCall, Idaho, happening January, 27 through February 5!

This year’s theme of “Destination Adventure!” brings everything you’ve come to expect from the winter spectacle, with some added extras!

Originally called the Payette Lakes Sport Carnival, the very first winter celebrtn_Winter Carnivalation took place in 1924 and featured a bevy of popular winter sports including dog sled racing, snowshoe races, ski racing and jumping, and many more.

Early carnivals included the “Ice Break-Up Contest”, where residents would buy tickets to guess what day and time the ice on Payette Lake would break. This event, however popular, fell out of favor in 1941 after gambling became illegal in the state of Idaho.

Gambling enthusiasts can still place their bets at the Monte Carlo Casino Night, happening the second Friday of the festivities, spanning over almost two weeks. Scheduled for day one are the opening ceremonies, firework display, the Children’s Torchlight Parade and comedy night!

Other notable events include the Mardi Gras Parade on day two, the Beard, Hairy and Sexy Leg contest happening at the McCall Yacht Club, family bingo and, of course, the judgment of the ice sculptures! Throughout the entire carnival, also enjoy live music on the main stage, beer gardens, wine and chocolate tasting, as well as an array of local vendors.
